MEDICAL REPRESENTATIVE
Medical representatives is a link between pharmaceutical and medical companies and healthcare professionals.
A medical representative's job is to promote and sell their company's products, whether that's pharmaceutical drugs or medical equipment.
Customers can include doctors, nurses and pharmacists. The medical representative will increase product awareness, answer queries, provide advice and introduce new products.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES OF A MEDICAL REPRESENTATIVE
- organising appointments and meetings with community- and hospital-based healthcare staff
- identifying and establishing new business
- negotiating contracts
- demonstrating or presenting products to healthcare staff including doctors, nurses and pharmacists
- undertaking relevant research
- meeting both the business and scientific needs of healthcare professionals
- maintaining detailed records
- attending and organising trade exhibitions, conferences and meetings
- managing budgets
- reviewing sales performance
- writing reports and other documents.

He/She can rise to the posts of : Area Manger; Regional/zonal manager; Divisional sales manager/ Divisional Controller; Dy. Marketing/ Dy. Sales Manager; Marketing/Sales Manager.
hose having a degree in Pharmacy can also be promoted on the manufacturing side as (i) Product Manager, (ii) Group Product Manager, and (iii) Marketing Manager.
QUALIFICATION-
Some companies do prefer candidate with a degree in Pharmacy, healthcare (MBA) or science with biology, however minimum qualification to be a medical representative is that you should be a graduate in Science or Commerce. A degree in marketing, sales or any medical or para-medical course would also be a added advantage.
