Study in Germany

Germans are noted for quality of work in any Endeavour, education is no exception. Degrees and other educational qualifications from obtained Germany are generally rated high throughout the world. The fees are lower than those in other many countries. In certain cases, you may not have to pay any tuition fee. One hurdle faced by Indian students desirous of pursuing higher education in certain universities in that country is the need of gaining proficiency in the German language.  Of course, there are many programs through the English medium. But, even for those, knowledge of German would be an asset.

 

Planning well ahead is crucial. Start planning at least a year before the commencement of studies in Germany. Though you can continue your studies in Germany after the higher secondary in India, planning for programs at the postgraduate or doctoral levels would be more convenient.  Nearly 145,000 international students are now studying in Germany.

There are different kinds of higher education institutions in Germany.

There may be overlap in this classification. Most of these are public institutions. Whatever be the type of higher education institution you choose, make sure it is state recognized.

 

There is a basic difference in the approach of the first two kinds of intuitions listed above. The traditional universities happily combine and research. The students therefore develop in depth knowledge in their subject. The universities of applied sciences, on the other hand, merge a basic level of academic knowledge with practical application relevant to the discipline. The objective center around developing skills in students for meeting the challenges in specific careers. This is done by guidance of professionally experienced faculty.

 

In the nearly 300 instituitions of higher education in Germany, there are facilities for about 90 bachelor’s programs, 450 master’s program, and 190 doctorate programs. The online search can be based on level, subject, universities or location in Germany. The UNI-ASSIST is an association of more than 85 German higher education institutions. It helps international student applicants to check whether they meet the minimum qualification for admission. You can also apply to simultaneously to several universities through uni-assist. Certificates and Documents will have to be translated in German and sent through uni-assist only once. You will have to pay Euros 55 for the service and Euros 15 for each additional university.

A basic level of German proficiency Exam may have to be cleared even if the mode of teaching is English. The TestDaf has to be taken at Max Mueller Bhavan, Delhi. TOEFL and IELTS scores may also be mandatory if university ask for evidence of your English language proficiency. 

 

Fees in Germany are in general Low compared to many other Countries. They maybe between Euros 500 to 800 per term. Several universities and other institutions of higher education in the Federal States may not charge Fees. Courses in subjects such as medicine and interior design may require higher amounts towards study materials.
